Possession as nine-tenths of the law.

Because I have reason to believe the people involved in Tenzings adoption are aware of this Blog and read it often I’m posting this request here with the intention and hope that after reading this they will simply answer the question, where is Tenzing Norgay?

Because of the verbal agreement between myself and the people who adopted Tenzing, I believe I have a right to request the following information:

#1 Name address and phone number for the last known person to be in possession of Tenzing Norgay.

#2 If Tenzing Norgay strayed from your possession or that of a family member or from the last known person to be in possession of him, the date, time and location of his disappearance.

#3 If Tenzing Norgay is no longer living, the cause of his death, the date which he died and the location in which you disposed of his body.

I would like to believe we are all compassionate beings free of malice however, this process (more accurately Tenzing) has taught me while we all have the capacity for compassion, it is by choice that we become compassionate. It’s somewhat comical this lesson comes to me from the teachings of a hybrid Wolf.

Pursuing Tenzing Norgay is about preventing this type of experience from happening to others, especially those without representation, without a voice the ones with fur, the ones that suffer most.

Once again I will state I harbor no ill will towards the people who adopted Tenzing Norgay, what’s done is done.  It is my deepest hope that they create a space for healing in their hearts and open themselves to compassion.

Flipping Mad

The dictionary on my iMac includes the following definitions for flipping:

turn over or cause to turn over, move, push, throw or toss something with a sudden sharp movement, buy and sell property quickly and profitably using fraudulent methods or scheme.

Yesterday I added a new definition to my vocabulary; people who misrepresent themselves and their motives in the process of obtaining a dog from an individual or family – only to turn around and sell the dog for profit, aka Flipping Dogs or Dog-Flipper.

My mother used to tell me “wanting something to be true doesn’t make it true” oh how right you are, Mama.  I am literally in a mild state of shock from reading the information and watching the videos available online pertaining to Dog-Flippers and the Flipping of Dogs.  Until yesterday I was completely unaware of this phenomenon, that it existed in the community of animal adoption and rescue or how prevalent it has become on Craigslist.

I’ve been posting ads on Craigslist about Tenzing because I know if more people see his photos and read his story my chances of finding him increase exponentially. Yesterday morning I included information in my post about the potential abuse in re-homing dogs. I did not use the term Flipping or Dog Flipper because I hadn’t learned the vernacular.  I couldn’t understand why the posts were repeatedly flagged until I received an email from a compassionate woman explaining that the person I had re-homed Tenzing to was probably a Dog-Flipper.

What to do?  For a start I’d like the Cyber-Gods at Craigslist to consider this:

Completely remove the ‘Pets‘ category from the Community section of Craigslist and don’t allow financial rewards to be included in posts for lost or found animals. It is absolutely impossible to reduce or eliminate the potential abuse of the ‘Pets’ category by Dog-Flippers and by continuing to maintain this service you provide a platform for the abuse to continue. Members of the Craigslist Community can utilize the ‘Lost and Found’ category to assist each other when their beloved companions have gone astray.  There is a vast network of organizations available to assist in pet adoption, rescue and re-homing that can monitor the welfare of the animal involved which is not a service Craigslist is capable of providing its community as is made clear in the Terms of Use agreement when posting, which may provide Craigslist with protection from any legal ramifications, however, it does not diminish the ethical deficit which now exists in the Craigslist Community and it’s administrators.

I know I’m going to upset quite a few people with this suggestion and my opinions regarding Craigslists responsibility for its content and usage may not be shared by anyone other than myself.  I’m sure there are many people reading this Blog that will assume I used Craigslist in re-homing Tenzing and I’m lashing out at Craigslist because my posts were flagged instead of taking responsibility for my mistake.  Just for the sake of clarity – I did not use Craigslist in any way shape or form while seeking a new home for Tenzing and I don’t give a flip about flagged posts on Craigslist.

I hope there are thousands of successful adoptions taking place on Craigslist but I ask you this, is it worth the potential risk to expose an untold population of Dogs that have no representation and no voice to the abuse of a Dog-Flipper?  Perhaps it’s time to organize, maybe create a National Dog-Flipper Registry Web-Site, we register Sex-Offenders why not Dog-Flippers, it’s the least we can do for Man’s Best Friend . . .

Have you seen Tenzing Norgay? I haven’t, and by the way, yes I’m flipping mad but I’m not rolling over . . .

The other side of Compassion…

I’m trying to be a good Tibetan Buddhist and practice the middle way but today I’m loosing my compassion.  I just can’t quite accept the reality that someone would withhold information knowing that information could ease the suffering of a fellow human being. Perhaps I’m more naive than I care to admit.

Part of me wants to believe its just plain and simple lack of consideration for others, however, the words that come to mind today are maleficence, enmity and spite. There is a fire burning deep down in my soul and I should stop right here – right now before I spew out phraseology I’ll regret.

Obviously, I haven’t found Tenzing Norgay today…

Compassion, always compassion.

To the person that arranged Tenzing Norgays adoption,

Please try to understand all I’m asking of you is to open your heart to compassion.  You are the only people I know that have any information about Tenzing Norgay, where he is or how he’s doing.

In the email you sent me 12/29/2010 (thank you for contacting me) you said Tenzing was no longer with your mother and you’d forward my number.  Did you mean you’d forward my number to your mother or to someone else?  Is Tenzing with a new family somewhere?

You also said in your e-mail Tenzing is not and never was your dog, I’m asking you to listen to the truth in that statement . . .

If you still have the photos you took of Tenzing and me the day of the adoption, I would be eternally grateful to you if you would e-mail them to me again.  The slide show you created with those photos and posted on Slide is no longer available. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to download it when it was available back in May 2010.

One last thing which is very important to me, please try to understand I harbor no ill will towards you or your family. I’m simply listening to my heart and asking you to do the same.  We all make mistakes, perhaps we both have something to learn from Tenzing Norgay . . .

May you and your family be blessed with joy and compassion for the New Year and beyond.

I hope Tenzing is living the ‘high-life’ in the company of compassionate and enlightened humans.  I imagine him greeting this New Years morning with a romp through the woods like we used to do almost every morning on the trails around Lost Creek Lake. It is my deepest wish that wherever he may be, he is loved and well cared for.

Do I dream of seeing him again? Every night.  Do I expect these hopes wishes and dreams to materialize the way I want them to?  No.

I’m completely conscious of the reality that I’m flying on a wing and a prayer here and the probability of my dream morphing into a collective reality is close to that of winning the lottery, but I’m buying the ticket anyway . . .

I do expect this process of pursuing Tenzing Norgay will benefit anyone in a similar situation, suffering will be eased and heart-felt thought will be given to our relationships without prejudice for the rights of species other than our own.  I do expect this journey will give greater purpose to the life of Tenzing Norgay, wherever he may be.

Once again he is my Teacher.

When I look into his eyes I see wisdom, strength and mischief  –  but most of all I see Poetry.

What do you see?

Last night while I was searching the stars I danced for the first time in a long time, granted I was alone but I felt a little taller, a little stronger and I realized pursuing Tenzing Norgay just might be as much about finding myself, finding my voice as it is about finding Tenzing . . .

This started me thinking about why I considered giving up Tenzing in the first place and what came up for me was a simple lack of confidence in myself, it really is just that simple.

Tenzing was such a great teacher, I learned more from him in the seven months we shared than I can imagine expressing here but maybe I should.  Maybe that’s the key to finding Tenzing.  The more you know about Tenzing  the more you’ll understand why I’m writing this Blog, why I’m pursuing Tenzing Norgay.

Yesterday an Animal Control Officer from ( ~ ) left a message on my voicemail, he said he was calling me regarding the e-mail he received about Tenzing.  He’d already gone for the day (the holiday weekend really) so I left a message on his voicemail. I hope it’s good news – gotta stay positive.

Many Blessings for the New Year and if you’re considering giving up your friend  just give it some time, I know there are circumstances that seem impossible but just give it some time and if you make the decision to find a new home for your friend please learn from my mistakes.  Go to their home – get phone numbers, photos, references and what ever else you feel in your heart will assure you, your friend is HOME.
